Lack of Association of the HMGA1 Gene Variants with Metabolic Syndrome Risk and Response to Oral Anti-Diabetic Drugs

Background: Metabolic syndrome (Mets) is partially heritable. High mobility group AT-hook1 (HMGA1), an architectural transcription factor, affects the homeostasis of glucose. The marked inter-individual differences between T2DM patients in response to oral anti-diabetic drugs have become issue for effective prescribing and dosing. objective this study was designed assess whether different SNPs HMGA1 gene are associated with metabolic syndrome, clarify effect these variants on combination therapy metformin, sitagliptin, glimepiride used by Mets diabetes patients.
 Methods: From February until Augusts 2022, a total 91 Iraqi participants (61 30 controls). were divided into two groups’ responders non-responders, based their HbA1c. Polymorphisms genotyping identified Sanger sequencing genomic DNA.
 Results: high prevalence CC GG genotypes rs1023028442 rs112081775 respectively seen population. Minor allele frequency higher among without (MAF=0.08) compared control (MAF= 0%). While (MAF=0.1) (MAF=0.02) group. non-significant difference carriage frequencies Based those wild carrier genotypes.
 Conclusions: This suggests lack association rare risk drugs.
